Hello Alex, welcome and thank you for sharing your reviews with us at #WOYBS? for November. I haven't read any of the books you have suggested, although have watched the Slow Horses series and enjoyed them. BTW, we are visiting Edinburgh next year and I would love to visit Waterstones Bookshop Cafe especially with the view of the castle. I hope you can join us next month for our final WOYBS? for 2024.
Thank you Sue, really appreciate you popping by, and excited for you and your hopes for Edinburgh. Definitely the greatest coffee shop seat in town! Although I’m sure it’s a closely contested seat. I just love the ease in which one can get there and in touching distance of the castle!
I have not read Around the World in 80 Days, but did read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I thoroughly enjoyed, so I am thinking I should read Verne’s other works. I already have Other Minds on my TBR list, and will now be adding The Extended Minds, and In Search of Scroedinger’s Cat.
I’m finding extended minds enlightening in terms of thinking about how to use the body better for learning and growth. Phileas Fogg, as my companion :)
Wintering has caused problems for many readers, me included. Perhaps it’s time to ‘try again’ and see what I make of it second time round.
We visited Robert Louis Stevenson’s home (now museum) on Samoa a few years back and I felt it only right to read some of his works when we got home. Much easier to read than I thought.
Ah, though it's been ages since I read Mary Stewart, the Crystal Cave was so impactful for me when I picked it up around age ... 10 maybe? It inspired my later sojourns into meditation and spiritual practices.
Great reading pile and reminds me I need to reread the Mary Stewart Arthurian books. It’s almost time for my annual read of the Dark is rising by Susan Cooper
Lovely, evocative post. I had trouble reading Wintering when I began it. Then I picked it up a couple of months later and the time must have been perfect because it's a book that has stayed with me.

Right on.
I'm looking forward to reading it.

I can so relate to reading rituals and repeat reads. Need to look up dark is rising.

It’s been sat on my shelf for a while, waiting for the right season 🤣
I think the time of year really counts for wintering. We were hit with a flurry of snow yesterday, so it definitely feels right here in Scotland.
Beautiful wriitng!
I'm 1/3rd of the way through Wintering and am really enjoying it. I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on it.
A lovely post and I could feel the warm sun shining through the window! An interesting set of books too. Great to have you join us!
I love that you picked up Mary Stewart! Let us know what you think after you read it. I, too, will look up Wintering and Dark is Rising :-)
Oh an interesting reading pile! Is that the big Waterstones on Princes Street?
Yeah, spread across 4 floors. There used to be two stores one at either end of the street, probably a James Thin on George street when you lived here.
