Great opening sentence, along with the rest of this piece. I feel like I'm in the kitchen too experiencing the sights, smells and feelings... Nicely done!

"I lift my head out the tin of Panettone for the last time, an amazing smell that lifts the spirits, the antidote to the decorations coming down slowly one by one round the house and then ultimately the tree."

I think the footnotes are a winner. (You'll know that I read right the way through!) I'm trying not to make too much bread, but this sounds delicious! I have often walked past the piles of Christmas Panettone and wondered... now I must try it! Thank you for this lovely piece. I hear your voice through it.

We try not to make too much bread as well although love it when we do. This recipe feels like it takes the calories away although I make up with it by adding cheese! Can also add now that it's a winner with regard being taken out the freezer.

As someone mentioned, there's nothing like a chunk of bread with soup in these temperatures. It sounds a treat for sure! The smell of bread is like no other!

I’m not a bread baker (requires too much measuring for this cook) but yours looks yummy!

I didn’t know the coast of Scotland was beaches and grasses like this! Gorgeous!

If only we got the warmth as well! The beaches are beautiful, thanks Teyani

Just finished the last piece of panettone too toasted then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Gullane looks interesting would like to visit.

Fun story.

I love making soda bread so will give this a go. As for Christmas leftovers, they’re a good group all of their own. I’ve been watching your temps & as we swelter in feral humidity with the usual afternoon thunderstorms rumbling around, admit to being a teeny bit jelly.

I'm tired of the cold now! I would definitely pass it on if I could!

I'm into making Soda Bread again. This cold weather is calling for soup of all kinds. A chunk of plain white soda bread goes down a treat. As for Panettone, it's something I missed out on this year. In another life, I would make a Panettone bread and butter pudding. Once this cold weather lifts, I'll be out shopping for reduced loaves to make some.

Bread and Butter Panettone....sounds like a winner! I know what you mean about reduced loaves....some of the prices of Panettone make your eyes water and I'm not sure how they can justify the price. We used to get ours half price from JL, but found Costco do a good one at a reasonable price. We have half on Christmas day for breakfast and half on New Years day.
