August has come round really quickly with July flying by. I was away for most of it, which probably accounts for that feeling. Part of the Scottish, exodus, the schools finishing up for the summer and allowing us to take time with our kids and make the most of some R and R.
I got all fired up on my side-line hustles, with many aspirations on what I might do when I get back and how I might achieve them. In some ways I've fallen into the old routines already. I can’t get past the needing to work and that nine till five requirement. That said I've been productive, I've nudged myself along, stood up the Cook One Thing website and evolving my systems to be productive.
I'm very grateful to the folks who've subscribed to this news letter. My intention is to provide a short sharp update as I realise your time is precious. Keen to share something that is useful and a way to check out what's been rolled out this month.

Underrated and a 12 week year (23-07-23)
That Feeling Memento Mori (23-07-31)
Recipes:
The site is up, and the first recipe shared and if you cook one thing this week I’d recommend the Tuscan Style Chicken
Viewing:
Hoovering up the 2nd Bear series on Disney+, with lots of yes chefs now taking in place in our home kitchen as a result. I've learned that to make a really good omelette, you sieve the eggs and almost add as much butter as you have eggs....what is there not to like! Joking aside, apart from the Christmas episode I've loved every minute and will be sad to have finished it (likely this evening).
Also watching the 2nd series of Race Round the World on the BBC, a great way to learn how big the world is and the small part we play in it.
Along with Foundation series 2 on Apple TV. I would love to say I know what is going on, I can't afford the time to refresh my memory by watching the first series again.
Rabbit holes:
I've started looking at sketch notes, enjoying the podcast from the sketchnote army, and have listened to S13/E11 about 10 times, a round up of the series and just good general life tips for being creative. I'm listening to the actual episodes one by one and today's find is Edmund Gropl. He's writing a book in the open, covering off the Zettelkasten method, Obsidian and Sketchnotes in one.
An amazing free book from Edmund Gropl, 'Make Useful Notes', which
just found a small trove on you tube from the Big Draw Charity, from one of the links.
Cooking:
I'm going to be busy through August!
Cookbooks on my list, they almost picked themselves, as a way of being dotted around the room and for the creation of the picture above for this post.
Kitchen Diaries II - #Author/Nigel-Slater
Home Cookery Year - #Author/Claire-Thomson
The Modern Cooks Year - #Author/Anna-Jones
The Meat Free Monday - #Author/MeatFreeMonday
The plan to work through the seasonal sections and see what I can rustle up.
Thanks again for reading and sharing my journey.
